Do I need any skill to use a ferro rod?
A little practice helps. Scrape the striker firmly down the rod toward your tinder to throw sparks. Dry tinder is the key — bring some, or learn to find it. Once you've done it a few times it's faster and more reliable than a lighter in bad weather.
Will it really work in the wet?
Yes — that's the main reason to carry a ferro rod over matches or a lighter. The rod sparks even when damp; you just need dry tinder to catch.
How long does one rod last?
